I used the same format for the album as I did from the Prima Romance Flip Album post from March 6th. This entire album is created from the "Secret Garden" collection from Graphic 45. Most of the pages were constructed from the 8" paper pack, but some of the larger tags were cut from 12" pages. With spring just around the corner (even though I have on good authority the groundhog LIED!), these papers are a pleasant relief from the dreariness of winter. For my cover, I used a combination of blues & lavender to accent one of the smaller secret garden prints. Using the chipboard shapes adds extra depth & dimension. I also used pop dots on parts of the banner to achieve the same result.</div>

Wrinkled seam ribbon is one of my latest obsessions! I've used it as my tie closure & on some of the pages to create a vine/leaf type look. I would love to have every color of the rainbow of this luscious ribbon. It's so easy to make with a spritz of water & glimmer mist. Scrunch & dry--what could be easier or more beautiful?</div>

The design of this paper collection is based off the book, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.</div>

There are many passages from the book hidden inside my album. Takes me back to childhood, that's for sure!</div>

Full of roses galore, this Prima paper collection is full of ephemera-like designs. Large florals grace the pages giving it a romantic feel; it's sure to make the girl in you giggle with delight. Check out the coordinating flowers and embellishments as well as bits of lace and pearls!<br /></div>

This link is to the original post. I used the same folding/cutting instructions as Gloria provided. <a href="http://gloriascraps.blogspot.com/2012/12/graphic-45-and-scrapbook-adhesives-by.html">http://gloriascraps.blogspot.com/2012/12/graphic-45-and-scrapbook-adhesives-by.html</a> Wanting to completely change up the look, I went with the "Romance Novel" collection from Prima. Vintage and Romance, just doesn't get any better than that! Truely love the colors! </div>

Several of the double-sided papers include a cut-out for a folded, flapped envelope. Made it so hard to decide which of the lovely sides to use! The format for the album provides nine 6" x 6" pages as well as four "mini-pages" or flaps, 3" x 6". This not only provides ample space to add photos, but journaling areas as well. The flapped envelopes are great for additional tags or photos, or hidden journaling. </div>

Just a peek into the interior pages, too much detail to share in it's entirety! If you try making one of the fabulous little albums, don't forget to embed the ribbon for tying the closure. Also a good idea to decorate the cover last, so it does not get smashed or hinder constructing the interior pages. TFL!!!</div>

It speaks to me on so many levels, but especially when it come to altering items like cigar boxes, especially the old, vintage ones. When the price tag inside the box says 15 cents or 35 cents, you know you are dealing with some "oldies", that's for sure! This paper is so gorgeous and elegant, it seems more suitable for "beyond the page" altered items, rather than layouts (one might cover up some of its' lusciousness were you to add pictures to your page--lol!)<br />
<br />
Three of these boxes have now been transformed into altered, vintage beauties. The first two are on display at my LSS, Pages in Time. They are currently hosting their annual "shop hop", with stops at scrapbook stores scattered around the area. Karen did a fabulous display of altered items featuring papers from Graphic 45 (two different paper lines) and Bo Bunny. This is the link to her FB page: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pages-in-Time-Purses-and-More/163263483767076">https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pages-in-Time-Purses-and-More/163263483767076</a><br />

I left the edges exposed on the box to accent the wood, plus it makes it unnecessary to remove the hinges or trying to neatly cut around them (which I find virtually impossible, BTW!). As is my norm with the vintage look, I did a lot of distressing with my favorite Ranger Distress Ink, "Vintage Photo". In my stash of goodies, I had this amazing laser-cut page of butterflies and flowers that seemed perfect for the box top. I "popped" up the middle oval and used black card stock to offset. I used Liquid Pearls in a sweet color, called bisque as the crowning touch to accent the middle section.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Antique Brass Bead "Feet"</td></tr>

<br />
As with all of my altered cigar boxes, I try to make the inside as attractive as the outside.<br />

As always, thanks for checking out my little treasures--I do so enjoy making them! They make great trinket boxes, jewelry boxes, or clever storage for note cards or greeting cards. I use them sometimes as gift boxes, that way the gift box is as much of a gift as its' content.<br />
<br />
'Til next time,<br />

<strong><span style="font-size: large;">Happy Scrappin!</span></strong>Susie aka Scrap Smarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01633731090487484003noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287267725311175357.post-34340436122351379812012-07-15T15:04:00.000-05:002012-07-15T15:07:33.975-05:00Swaps, Swaps, & More SwapsI love, love, love swaps, the good ones that is; every so often there is the "one bad apple" that really does spoil the whole bunch, girl--LOL! Bad Apples show themselves two ways. The first bad apple jumps in with both feet, quick to add her likes and dislikes, and then just when you think you are getting to know her, she disappears. We call these gals "flakers". You've spent hours or days even creating the special items you are sure she will be delighted with. You've shopped or found the "perfect items" she wanted--the envy of all her fellow shoppers. And now what?<br />
<br />
Your "hostess" is left in a "lurch"! She either has to "angel" the flaker's spot, or adjust the recipients to exclude them. Neither way is very fair, puts undo stress on the hostess, and leaves everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.<br />
<br />
The other type of bad apple makes a mockery of your hard work. Their goal is to get done using the least amount of effort possible. One participant asked "just how long should a card take to make anyway?!" This comment shocked me to say the least, as I know it did some of my fellow swappers. One card can sometimes take all day or hours upon hours until it is "just right". This is ART, people, not a quick sprint to the finish line. You can only imagine the kind of shoddy workmanship you receive from the "sprinters"!<br />

So, moral to the story, don't waste your time and effort unless you can be fairly sure of the outcome and the participants. And more importantly, don't sign up if you aren't giving 110% effort. Many of us ladies are like "elephants", we never forget and maintain that "flakers" list!<br />

And by no means am I trying to say my items are better than someone else' items......just sayin, hours of love and creativity go into everything that comes out of "Smart Art" creations! Been some time since I added anything to my blog--life just always seem to get in the way or takes some turns not expected; and although the journey has been rocky--I can't really say I would change a thing. Life is just that....a journey, lessons learned and some parts may have to be revisited over and over until we can move on. Painful, joyful, difficult or exhilarating--it's all a part of this journey we call life.</div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Enough of the introspective and onto the creating! Without further ado, I give you "A Ladies Diary" Mini-Album. The paper is all from Graphic 45, "A Ladies Diary". The base is a simple chipboard album & rings purchased at Michael's for a $1. I use the Xyron 900 to adhere all the paper to the pages. It holds more firmly than just adhesive on the edges. I also use it for altered projects--like cigar boxes. Modge Podge is a popular choice, but I find it messy and not happy with how it changes the surface appearance. Just sayin..</div>

Added some liquid pearls to the ladies "jewelry" and to the oval frame. The dress form is stamped and with walnut stain distress ink & then embossed with distress embossing powder, which gives it more of a vintage look and rougher feel than other embossing powders. <br />

The bags are folded in half and the two bags are glued together forming a pocket in the middle AND still have the ususal paper bag opening on each side. Staying in the vintage theme of things, I started with a great two-sided paper in a vintage travel scene. I added a stamped compass in the middle and heat embossed it to create a shiny, slightly raised image. The images on the paper of the key, clock, bicycle, and butterflies are all rub-ons (my favorite way to embellish, btw!) Other cool embellishments came from various monthly kits from my friends over at Swirlydoos.com--they really find the greatest "extras"! Love the Paris postmark wood die-cut, vintage brads, and the black key! The title letters were inked and coated with "Glossy Accents" to make them "stand out".</span><br />

It's vintage wedding collection is perfectly done is hues of pinks, golds, & ivory with romantic touches of butterflies, flowers, lace, and gorgeous vintage images. Using larger paperbags gives finished pages of approximately 6-1/2" x 10 1/2 "--room not only for your photos & journaling, but lots of spaces for gorgeous embellishments.</span><br />

I love to distress the edges, it not only softens the edges, but also adds to the vintage appeal. I also accented the butterflies with glossy accents to give them dimension and used "Rock Candy" Stickles for the flower centers and leaves to create a glamerous look and feel.</span> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

A group of friends with a commonality of interests, vintage scrapping style, and genuine friendship got together at our favorite scrap booking website, scrapbook.com. We've formed a little group called "Friends of the B & B and as a memento, we've each made a mini-album about ourselves and each other. My special friend, Kat, designed our "house" and the vintage pictures of each of us. We each made six pages of our self, then they were "swapped" out so that in the end, all six of us has a complete set. Although we each love vintage, each person adds their own touches that make theirs' unique. Here is just a peek into our "special place".</span><br />

My sister-in-law loves flowers and rich colors like red and gold. I crafted this paperbag album for her as a surprise birthday gift. I used a little bit larger paper bag to allow for lots of pictures, journaling and deep pockets for all the "extras". She loved it!! I chose the gorgeous Mariposa richly embellised paper line from DCWV for this special gift. Hard to go wrong when you start with quality basics. My focus whenever I create is to compliment a photo or patterned paper, not to overwhelm my pages or layouts with embellishments. <br />

My friend, Martica, was hosting one of her fabulous swaps, so I gave it a try. Love the result, but definitely not the process! The cameo on the top was either my grandmother's or great aunt's, which I repurposed as the focal point of the "shoe". The black lace really gave it an elegant look.</div>Susie aka Scrap Smarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01633731090487484003noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287267725311175357.post-11932861343327816672010-09-23T00:00:00.000-05:002010-09-23T00:00:46.578-05:00Vintage Graphic 45<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_udqRBk7rj34/TJrcsqgxm0I/AAAAAAAAAA0/b4pxYRCWtic/s1600/100_0170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" px="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_udqRBk7rj34/TJrcsqgxm0I/AAAAAAAAAA0/b4pxYRCWtic/s320/100_0170.jpg" /></a></div>This is my first successful "truely vintage look" layouts. Of course, working with the gorgeous Graphic 45 patterend papers make it difficult NOT to create a work of art! The little ladybugs are vintage buttons from one of my favorite dresses as a little girl. I am so glad to preserve this little bit of my childhood favorites.Susie aka Scrap Smarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01633731090487484003noreply@blogger.com2
